The things are developing fast in the ever-growing crossover SUV market and new models are emerging in all shapes and sizes and with different purposes. Chevy revived recently the Blazer nameplate and the model has got a totally new form and purpose. The new 2020 Chevy Blazer transformed into the urban crossover SUV which takes the position between the Equinox and Traverse in the brand’s lineup. The previous Chevy K5 Blazer was, however, a totally different vehicle with the full-size proportions and hard-core, off-road capability. The speculations appeared that GM might introduce the all-new 2020 Chevy K5 Blazer with the new Ford Bronco on its sight.
Chevy introduced the original K5 Blazar in 1969 to go against the Ford Bronco and both models were designed as though off-road beasts. The model changed the form several times in the life cycle and got also the twin-version under the GMC nomenclature called Jimmy. The interesting form of both models was the two-door SUV with the removable top which was discontinued in 1975. Chevy redesigned the Blazer for 1976 and the model got the form of the half-cab design with the partially removable top. The model was effectively replaced by the Chevy Tahoe in 1995 while the GMC Yukon replaced the Jimmy. The K5 Blazer’s successor with the four-door body and long-wheelbase is the Chevy Suburban.
It’s is a known fact, that GM is working on the new generation large SUVs and the prototype version of the new Tahoe was caught several times. The new Tahoe will arrive with the independent rear suspension on the new T1 platform and offer V-6 and V-8 engines with the possibility of the turbocharged unit inclusion. However, we haven’t seen the prototype model of the new K5 Blazer or leaked details appeared. Chevy hasn’t also commented on the topic.
2020 Chevy K5 Blazer: Design
Based on the speculations in the industry, the new 2020 Chevy K5 Blazer should again be based on the full-size truck platform. It will provide rugged, off-road capability while the new, modern design and mix of lightweight materials will ensure reduced weight and application of modern technologies.
There are no details about the model’s dimensions but it should appear with four-door body style. It hasn’t also been said would there be removable top design. The model should, however, adopt the brand’s new, sharper styling theme. There should be sharp headlights and grille style upfront like on Chevy’s recently redesigned models while the rear should have a more traditional design. The model would also have a raised ride height to improve its off-road capability.
The cabin should provide plenty of the passenger and cargo room. The design of the interior should be similar to the newest models with a similar center stack configuration and modern instrument cluster.
The model would also employ the brand’s latest in-car technologies including active-safety equipment. There would surely be automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring system, etc. The newest Chevy infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto will be integrated into all versions if model retunes. There will also be wireless and other connectivity options and different levels of comfort features.
2020 Chevy K5 Blazer: Powertrains
If the 2020 Chevy K5 Blazer would be coming, the model would likely use some of the engine options already employed in the new Silverado truck. The same will be with the redesigned Chevy Tahoe.
The likely candidates for the rumored K5 Blazer are the 5.3- and 6.2-liter V-8 engines combined with either 8- or 10-speed automatic transmissions. The former would provide around 355 hp while the lager V-8 would deliver around 420 hp. The entry-level engine could be a V-6 unit with the power around 280 hp. Chevy might also use a 2.7-liter turbo-4 engine with the output around 310 hp.
The model would also rely on a capable four-wheel-drive system with locking differentials and specially tuned suspension for the hard-core off-road tasks.
2020 Chevy K5 Blazer: Release Date and Price
The new 2020 Chevy K5 Blazer has been a matter of speculation for now. Chevy hasn’t commented on rumors about the model. It should appear sometime in 2020 with the base cost around $30, 000 as the rumors suggest.
The original Blazer was a very popular and distinctive model used also in military applications as well. GM should deficiently consider the successor of the iconic model to go against the new Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler and Toyota 4Runner.
