Audi continues the modernization of its SUV range and one of the brand’s best-selling models is going on sale in the refreshed form for the 2021 model year. The next 2021 Audi Q5 comes with the updated styling and new wheel and color options. The model gets also as an array of in-cab modifications including an upgraded infotainment system and safety features. The Q5 gets also a power bump in both the base and plug-in hybrid versions. The high-performance SQ5 version goes also on sale with the mighty 349-hp V-6 engine.
The compact Q5 crossover SUV is a rival with the models such as the Mercedes GLC, BMW X3, Cadillac XT5, Volvo XC60 and Range Rover Evoque. The Q5 has refined ride quality and interior craftsmanship. The model goes on sale with standard all-wheel drive and array of tech options. It is powered by the strong turbo engines and offer also the plug-in hybrid option.
2021 Audi Q5: Design
The fast-selling Audi Q5 gets a new attractive look in accordance with the brand’s newest design language. Attention gets a new trapezoidal grille with a honeycomb pattern. The 2021 Audi Q5 goes also on sale with reshaped air openings. The upcoming Q5 is also 1 inch longer thanks to the larger bumpers.
The next Q5 receives also standard LED headlights with new LED daytime running lights. The top-grade Prestige version uses matrix LEDs. The high-performance SQ5 version gets standard OLED lights with different signature options.
The plug-in hybrid version equips the S line package by default. The electrified Q5 wears sportier honeycomb grille and chrome accents on the rear diffuser. The model rides on the 19-inch wheels while can be had with the two-tone 20-inch units. The Sport Plus Package brings the attractive 20-inch 10-spoke wheels with summer tires. The SQ5 and plug-in hybrid models are also available with District Green and Ultra Blue color shades.
Aside from the revised bumpers, the Q5 enters the new model year with the same body sculpting. The rear comes with the new taillights with the redesigned graphics.
The cabin of the next Q5 comes with standard walnut wood inlays while brushed aluminum is used in the Sport Plus package. This package combines also the leather seats with contrasting stitching and black gloss trim accents and a black headliner.
The new 2021 Audi Q5 gains also MIB 3 infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple Car Play. The model goes also on sale with standard automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The Premium Plus model adds adaptive cruise control.
The entry-level Q5 gets also leather upholstery, four-zone climate control, etc. The mid-grade model adds a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, etc.
2021 Audi Q5: Performance
The refreshed 2021 Audi Q5 comes with the standard mild-hybrid setup. The entry-level version combines belt-starter generation with the familiar 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder regime. The new base powertrain is now good for 261 hp which is a 13-hp improvement over the current version.
The plug-in hybrid version uses a 2.0-liter engine combined with the electric motor. The motor sits between the petrol engine and standard 8-speed automatic transmission. The refreshed plug-in hybrid version gains also 13 hp for a total of 362 hp and torque of 369 lb-ft. This model uses also a 14.1-kWh battery which provides about 20 miles of pure-electric propulsion.
The high-spec SQ5 model packs a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engine under the hood. The mighty V-6 engine is good for 349 hp and torque of 369 lb-ft of torque. The SQ5 gets adaptive suspension by default. Buyers can also get an optional height-adjustable air suspension. The Q5 PHEV can also switch to the adaptive suspension.
Audi hasn’t talked about the fuel efficiency of the upgraded powertrains. The base version should stay close to 22 mpg city, 28 highways and 24 combined. The SQ5 version should manage around 18 mpg city and 23 highways or 23 combined.
2021 Audi Q5: Release, Price
The updated 2021 Audi Q5 will reach dealers this fall. The base version will be available from $44, 295. Equipped with the plug-in hybrid setup, the model will cost from $52, 895. Buyers who want the high-performance SQ5 model will need to pay $53, 895.
