2021 Buick Envision: Redesign, Equipment, Price

The compact-sized 2021 Buick Envision enters the new model year as the fully redesigned model. The 2021 version initializes the second generation of the China-imported model which has had about 30, 000 sold units per year in the US.

The second-generation Envision raises the stake with much more expressive styling and revised dimensions. The power comes from the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine but Buick still keeps the output ratings out of the pubic. What we know is that there will be the premium Avenir trim and plenty of standard active safety tech.  The model comes also with the upgraded cabin and infotainment system.

A more expressively styled and better equipped, second-gen Envision will challenge the Volvo XC60, Acura RDX, Cadillac XT4, Lincoln Corsair and Lexus NX.

2021 Buick Envision: Design

The redesigned 2021 Buick Envision makes the transition to the second generation on the new platform and with a more expressive design. The all-new Envision is based on General Motor’s global crossover platform known as the VSS-F. The new lightweight design provides multiple benefits for the new version including a new electrical architecture.

The remodeled Buick Envision is wider and lower. The wider body mixed with the sharper body lines and new styling elements transforms the Envision to sportier and more modern SUV. The new Envision comes with the wider grille design and sharper headlights. The front bumper and fog lights housings are also more sculpted. The hood of the model has got sharper creases as well.

The side panels come also with more expressive creases and dynamic character line.

The rear has got slimmer taillights with similar graphics as the current version. The rear is also heavily sculpted.

Interior, Equipment:

While Buick released photos of the model’s exterior the cabin remains undercover. However, what we should expect is slightly boosted interior comfort and cargo capacity. The current version provides up to 57 cubic feet for the cargo which is less than the class average.

The new 2021 Buick Envision comes also with upgraded tech and safety features. The newly available Avenir trim will also lift the refinement and interior quality to the new level. The Envision Avenir will come with the premium leather upholstery, wood-trimmed and power-adjustable steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats and more.

The new-generation Envision gets also the new infotainment system with Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa. The redesigned Envisions will also have a 10-inch center touchscreen.

There will also be a long list of standard active safety equipment. The standard safety suite will include active cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and parking assist. The model will also be available with the blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, surround-view camera and a head-up display.

2021 Buick Envision: Powertrain, Efficiency

Buick hasn’t yet revealed a full specification of the new Envision’s powertrain. The 2021 Buick Envision should come with the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission. The power and torque ratings are yet to be revealed. The new version should again offer both the front- and all-wheel drive.

The current, first-generation Buick Envision comes with the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission. The engine is good for 197 hp and torque of 192 lb-ft. The version with the non-turbo engine can be had with both the front- and all-wheel drive.

A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is available in the top Premium and Premium II trims. This engine is available with the all-wheel drive only. It comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission like the new version. The output is 252 hp and torque of 295 lb-ft.

When it comes to the fuel economy, the new Buick Envision should earn slightly better ratings at EPA testing. The current turbo-4 powered Envision earned 20 mpg city, 25 highways and 22 combined.

2021 Buick Envision: Release, Price

The redesigned 2021 Buick Envision will reveal all its secrets later in the year. The on-sale date will be in early 2021.

Among other details about the redesigned Envision, Buick hasn’t also revealed the model’s price. Considering the level of upgrades, the new Envision should have a slightly increased price. The current Envision starts from $32, 000. The top-grade Buick Envision is available from $46, 300. The newly available Avenir trim will have a more premium price tag.
