2021 Cadillac XT7: Speculations, Design

Cadillac entered late the fast-selling SUV segment with the compact-sized XT5 model but the brand recently expanded the offer with the smaller XT4 and larger, mid-size XT6. A heavily-revamped, full-size Cadillac Escapade is also on sale for the 2021 model year with a roomier third row, larger cargo capacity, the newest technology features including up to five screens in its ultra-rich cabin.  However, General Motors’s luxury division might soon expand its SUV portfolio further if the speculations about a new 2021 Cadillac XT7 model turn out to be true.

The reports indicate that a new XT7 model could be the brand’s first coupe-style crossover SUV derived from the recently all-new Cadillac XT6. The model should share many components and equipment with the brand’s latest SUV model spiced with a more alluring coupe-like roofline.

Cadillac hasn’t however commented on the rumors about the new coupe-style crossover SUV.  The prototype version hasn’t also been detected to support claims about its arrival.

2021 Cadillac XT7: Design

A yet unconfirmed, coupe-style 2021 Cadillac XT7 shouldn’t stray far from the brand’s actual design book as the reports suggest. The model should share the same underpinning and design language with the XT6. Two models should also have a similar footprint.

Like the brand’s first SUV, the XT5 and the recently all-new XT6, a sportier XT7 should adopt the brand’s C1XX platform. This crossover version of the E2XX platform replaced the Theta and Lambda platforms. It underpins small mid-size to full-size GM’s SUVs including the GMC Acadia, Chevy Blazer, Chevy Traverse, and Buick Enclave.

From the visual standpoint, the unconfirmed XT7 should adopt similar styling cues as the fresh XT6 model. It is the brand’s new styling language previewed by the sleek Escala concept model. The front section of the model should adopt the brand’s sleek, shield-shaped grille flanked by the slim headlights and adorned by the signature, vertical LED lighting. The front-end should also get a sharper front bumper.

The new XT7 should also get attention with a sportier profile thanks to the coupe-style roofline. The model will also use specific wheel styles.

The rear of the model should adopt similar, vertical taillights combined with a sportier rear bumper compared to the XT6 model.

Interior, Equipment:

The cabin of the 2021 Cadillac XT7 should also use a similar recipe as the XT6 model except it will trade some headroom for a sportier appearance.

The model should adopt the same dash design as the conveniently styled XT6 model and similar material patterns. There should be several additional sport-style details comparted to the XT6 model including a sportier seat option. The model will use soft leather surfaces mixed with carbon fiber and wood accents in the upper grades.

The XT7 will also get the latest tech and safety equipment if it arrives. The model will get at least an 8-inch touchscreen with smartphone compatibility in every version. The standard safety kit will include systems such as automatic emergency braking, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring and lane keep assist.

2021 Cadillac XT7: Performance

The 2021 Cadillac XT7 should share the same underpinning with the XT6 model. However, it should arrive with sport-tuned suspension and upgraded braking system.

As for the engine options, the XT7 could use a 3.6-liter V-6 unit found under the hood of the XT6. The engine makes 310 hp and torque of 271 lb-ft under the hood of the conventionally styled, mid-size Cadillac SUV. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine upgraded to produce more hp than in the XT5 might also be used. Cadillac might also boost the model’s performance with the hybrid setup. The model might also adopt a 2.7-liter turbo-4 unit with power above 300 hp. No matter what engine would be used, 9-speed automatic transmission will be in the mix.

2021 Cadillac XT7: Release, Price

The 2021 Cadillac XT7 could appear sometime in 2021 as the report suggests. If the model hits the market, the price should start slightly above $50, 000.

Cadillac hasn’t yet commented on the possibility to launch a new coupe-style SUV. With no prototype model spotted on the roads yet, an introduction for the 2021 model year seems unreal.

If the Cadillac XT7 appears in the form as the speculations suggest it will be alternative to similarly-sized, coupe-style Audi, BMW and Mercedes-badged models.
