2021 Chevy Trax: News, Equipment, Price

Chevy’s growing SUV range has been under revision for the 2021 model year. We welcomed recently the all-new mid-size 2020 Chevy Balzer while the revived Trailblazer nameplate is now available in the form of the small SUV for the 2021 model year. The upcoming season will also bring refreshed Equinox and Traverse models while the full-size, truck-based 2021 Tahoe and Suburban are also all-new. On the other hand, the reports indicate that the next 2021 Chevy Trax will return with minor updates.

The current Trax reached the US for the 2015 model year and was expected to come as the new-generation version for the 2021 model year. The prototype version of the all-new Trailblazer made confusion and was recognized at one point as the redesigned Chevy Trax. However, as the fresh reports suggest Chevy won’t bring the all-new Trax for the 2021 model year and there will be just a few updates. There are also talks that this model could be canceled in the coming model years.

2021 Chevy Trax: Design

The 2021 Chevy Trax will continue to the new model year on the aging Gamma II architecture and with the same styling as the current version.

Unfortunately, the new-generation Trax won’t come on the new platform and with the Blazer-inspired styling for the 2021 model year as it was expected earlier. Chevy is busy working on other SUV models and there are hints that Trax could get attention for the 2022 model year. Contradicting reports indicate also that Chevy might discontinue this model in the coming years.

In any case, the 2021 Trax will return in the same styling form. The model will offer nine body color options. The base version will ride on the 16-inch wheels while more expensive versions will be available with the 18-inch wheels.

Interior, equipment:

There won’t big upgrades in the cabin of the next 2021 Chevy Trax either as the reports claim. The model should get an upgraded infotainment system while it’s not confirmed it will receive active safety systems such as automatic emergency braking.

The Trax has an attractive dashboard design and comes with a 7-inch display in the base version. The entry-level version will also provide Apple Car Play and Android Auto integration as well as WiFi connection. There will also be six speakers and driver’s seats with power lumbar adjustment.

Skipping the base version will bring upgraded cloth upholstery and headlights, heated mirrors, satellite radio, etc.

The top grades will introduce faux leather upholstery, larger wheels, power-adjustable and heated front seats, etc. Available will also be blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and parking sensors. An additional option will include an appearance package with specific 18-inch wheels and black body accents.

2021 Chevy Trax: Powertrains

No indications appeared that the 2021 Chevy Trax will switch to the new powertrain or offer a new option.

The current version employs a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mixed with six-speed automatic transmission. The engine makes 138 hp and torque of 148 lb-ft. The model can be had with the front- or all-wheel drive.

EPA rated the two-wheel-drive version at 26 mph city and 31 highways. The all-wheel-drive Trax earned 24 mpg city and 29 highways.

The new Trailblazer is powered by smaller two turbocharged I-3 engines which should provide better performance than the Trax’s 1.4-liter unit. A 1.2-liter engine should make 137 hp and 166 lb-ft of torque. A 1.3-liter unit should deliver 155 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. Both engines will be in the combination with the continuously variable transmission while 9-speed automatic should be optional with the larger engine.

2021 Chevy Trax: Release, Price

With no significant upgrades, the price of the 2021 Chevy Trax should stay close to the current range. The Trax is now available from $21, 300 while the range-topping version costs from $29, 100.

The next Trax will reach the market in the last quarter of the year.

The new, larger and more attractive Trailblzer stars just under $20, 000 and many buyers will likely find it more appealing than the aging Trax which could lead to its discontinuation.

The Chevy Trax is considered as an alternative to the newer and popular Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V, Subaru Crosstrek and Jeep Compass.
