The go-anywhere Jeep Wrangler is one of the rare off-road specialized SUVs that survived on the market but it will soon get new rivals. The Wrangler was all-new for the 2018 model year and Jeep recently introduced the truck version. With the new Ford Bronco around the corner, the next 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited should come with a new round of upgrades.
The iconic off-roader will come with the new, flashier High Altitude trim option that will also be available with the next Gladiator version. The new Wrangler High Altitude comes with the premium materials inside the cabin and fancier exterior. Jeep should also introduce additional Special Edition versions.
The new model year may also bring the plug-in hybrid powertrain but details are still scarce. As part of the Jeep’s electrification plan, the Compass and Renegade should also get the plug-in hybrid versions. The diesel engine will also be a part of the 2021 Wrangler’s equipment list.
2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: Design
The fourth-generation Wrangler arrived with the structural upgrades and larger. The styling changes were evolutionary.
The next 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will return with no visual upgrades in the available trim range while the new High Altitude version will have a flashier appearance.
The High Altitude version comes with the monochromatic exterior treatment. The model will have the color-matched bumpers, hardtop, door handles, exterior mirrors and other exterior elements. The part of the new trim version is also running boards with the integrated step and Trail Rated badge. The new version will also get attention with the large, black-painted, 20-inch wheels.
The next model will be available in various color options including black, white, Granite Crystal, Snazzberry, Billet Silver and Ocean Blue.
The cabin of the next 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will return with the same design. The new High Altitude version will come with the premium materials and features.
The new version comes with the black or grey leather applied on the dash, door panels, center console, etc. The seats will be covered with the stitched Nappa leather. The new range-topping Wrangler High Altitude will also equip Alpine premium sound system, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, navigation, 4G LTE WiFi, keyless entry, tec. The part of the equipment list will also be automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a ParkView backup camera.
The base Wrangler Unlimited will come with the 5-inch touchscreen, eight speakers, manual locks and mirrors, etc.
The upper grades will switch to the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, satellite radio, upgraded upholstery and more.
The Sahara and Rubicon versions will come with the upgraded off-road hardware.
2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: Performance
The next 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will repeat the current powertrain range but it could introduce the plug-in hybrid version.
The powertrain range of the next Wrangler Unlimited will begin with the proven 3.6-liter V-6 engine producing 285 hp and torque of 260 lb-ft. The engine will available with the 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Buyers will again have a chance to switch to the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mixed with the 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine makes 270 hp and torque of 295 lb-ft.
Another option will be a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 paired with 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine produces 260 hp and torque of 422 lb-ft.
Every Wrangler Unlimited will be equipped with the four-wheel drive. There will also be the mild-hybrid eTorque system in some trims with both petrol engines.
As for the plug-in hybrid version, there are no many details yet. The next Jeep Renegade and Compass will use a petrol engine to power the front wheels and electric motor will power the rear wheels. The Renegade will deliver around 30 miles of all-electric range. The Wrangler PHEV could use a V-6 petrol engine mixed with the electric motor and battery pack as the Chrysler Pacifica.
2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: Release, Price
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited should offer a new trim option in the second quarter of the year. The Wrangler Unlimited should be available from about $32, 000. The turbodiesel will demand a few thousands more. The plug-in hybrid should cost at least about $10, 000 more than the conventionally powered version.
