The plush, full-size, Toyota Land Cruiser-based Lexus LX has been on the roads without the full redesign for more than a decade and the recent reports indicate that won’t change with the arrival of the next 2021 Lexus LX. The reports suggest that the new generation Lexus LX should enter the production in the last quarter of 2021 and go on sale as the 2022 version. In the meantime, the 2021 version will return with minimal changes.
The flashy Lexus LX introduced a new Sport Package for the 2020 model year and the 2021 version is also expected to bring new package options and more standard features. There won’t be styling and interior upgrades but Lexus might also introduce a new special edition version. The model will continue to rely on the mighty V-8 engine and provide a comfy ride backed up by solid off-road capability if needed.
2021 Lexus LX: Design
The current Lexus LX shares the rugged, off-road-ready underpinning with the Toyota Land Cruiser while features distinctive exterior and interior design as well as the suspension setup. The Lexus LX has an angular shape mixed with aggressive spindle grille front-end design. The sharp LED headlights and L-shaped signature lighting contribute also to model’s aggressive styling
The rear is also angular and the taillights apply also the L-shaped pattern. The sculpted fender flares, rear spoiler and attractive wheel styles fit also to the model’s rugged appearance. An available Sport trim package switches to the new grille pattern and specific trim accents
The 2021 Lexus LX returns in the same styling form while the next-generation version should reportedly come with the radical structural and visual upgrades. The redesigned LX will arrive on the new platform and with the modernized exterior styling. The model should get a new grille version and headlights mixed with the reshaped body and full-width taillights.
Interior, Equipment:
The 2021 Lexus LX will also return with the same in-cab design. The model has wide dash equipped with the large 12.3-inch center and treated with soft and high-quality materials. The soft leather mixed with the real metal inserts and plenty of wood accents are up to the model’s premium label.
The Lexus LX is not exceptionally spacious in all rows. The front seats are very comfortable and treated with premium leather. The second row is also comfortable. The model has up to 140 cubic feet for the cargo or 45 cubes with the rear seats in function.
The premium Lexus LX SUV comes also generously equipped by default and backed up by package options. A long list of standard features includes a 14-way power driver’s seat, four-zone climate control, etc. The luxury package lifts the stake with the leather upholstery, heated and cooled front and rear seats, rear-seat entertainment, etc.
The next LX comes also with a long list of standard active safety equipment including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, high beam headlights, etc.
2021 Lexus LX: Performance
The next 2021 Lexus LX continues to rely on the truck-like underpinning and mighty 5.7-liter V-8 engine. The engine directs 383 hp and torque of 403 lb-ft via the 8-speed automatic transmission to the standard full-time four-wheel drive.
The Lexus LX owns the same off-road goodies as the go-anywhere Toyota Land Cruiser including a two-speed transfer case, crawl control and various traction control modes. The model can tow up to 7, 000 pounds.
The fuel economy is poor and stands at 12 mpg city and 16 mpg highway for the current version.
The next-generation Lexus LX should be lighter and more fuel-efficient thanks to the introduction of the new architecture and hybrid powertrain.
2021 Lexus LX: Release, Price
The next 2021 Lexus LX will go on sale in the last quarter of the year. The price will be revealed closer to the launch date but it should stay in the neighborhood of the current price range. The base, two-row Lexus LX starts at $87, 675. The three-row LX goes over $90, 000.
Based on its size, powertrain and available equipment, the Lexus LX is alternative to the models such as the Infiniti QX80, Cadillac Escalade, Land Rover Range Rover and Mercedes GLS.
