2021 Mazda CX-3: News, Equipment, Price

Mazda’s subcompact CX-3 delivers a refined ride quality and controlled handling combined with upscale interior design. The model comes also well-equipped from the base variant. With the CX-3 in its SUV range, Mazda has a rival for the class where buyers can also consider the Honda HR-V, Chevy Trax and Jeep Renegade.

Mazda updated the small CX-3 SUV for the 2019 model when it boosted the engine output and added new comfort and safety features. The 2020 version received more standard safety features and Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The 2021 Mazda CX-3 should stay in the same form with no significant upgrade.

There were talks in the industry that the CX-3 might be passed out after the introduction of the larger 2020 CX-30 but the model will continue to live and the all-new version should hit the market for the 2022 season.

2021 Mazda CX-3: Design

Following the 2019 model update, the 2021 Mazda CX-3 is expected to return with just a few changes in the equipment list and feature availability. There won’t be any visible updates until the approaching redesign likely for the 2022 model year.

The Mazda CX-3 shares the platform and mechanics with the Mazda2 supermini. The model sits on the 101-inch wheelbase and has more dynamically shaped body lines than the larger CX-5. The model comes with narrow headlights and the brand’s signature style grille.

The profile grabs attention with the dynamic character line and sculpted rear quarters. The sleek roofline adds also to the model’s sporty appearance.

The CX-3 has also dynamically shaped rear-end and nice taillights. There will also be attractive wheel options ranging from 16- to 18 inches.

Interior, Equipment:

The cabin of the 2021 Mazda CX-3 will return in the same form equipped with the up-to-date infotainment and safety tech.

The model employs high-quality materials and has a nice, uncluttered dash design. The front seats are comfortable and it also has good sound insulation. The rear seat comfort is not impressive and the rear passengers will have 35.5 inches of the legroom at disposal. The cargo capacity is just 12.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats while with the rear seats folded the cargo amount swells to 44.5 cubes.

The Mazda CX-3 comes also with an intuitive and flexible infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto support. There will also be a full suite of active safety systems including full-speed automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams. The rear-view camera will also be standard equipment. Available will also be active lane control and a head-up display.

At the comfort and convenience level, the Mazda CX-3 will start with the cloth upholstery, keyless entry, a 7-inch display, six speakers and more. The more expensive versions will switch to the leather seating, Bose sound system, heated front seats, etc.

2021 Mazda CX-3: Performance, Efficiency

No signs that 2021 Mazda CX-3 will introduce new or additional engine options. All chances are that the current engine will remain in its inventory.

A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine received a performance boost for the 2019 model year and it should return in the same form for the 2021 season. The engine delivers 146 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. The engine will work in the combination with the smooth six-speed automatic transmission.

The Mazda CX-3 will be the front-wheel-drive by default while buyers can upgrade to the all-wheel drive with active torque control.

At the efficiency level, the Mazda CX-3 should deliver 29 mpg city, 34 highways and 31 combined with the front-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive version should score 27 mpg city, 32 highways or 29 mpg combined.

The CX-3 will also provide impressive ride quality thanks to the strong body structure and good suspension system. The model has front-strut and rear-torsion bar suspension setup which combined with the direct and well-weighted steering will ensure an agile and well-controlled ride.

2021 Mazda CX-3: Availability, Price

With no significant upgrades expected, the 2021 Mazda CX-3 should keep the price close to the current range. The most affordable CX-3 should be available at about $20, 500. The 2020 version should reach dealers later the year.
