2021 Mazda CX-30: News, Specs, Price

Mazda builds some of the finest SUVs in the industry and it continues to expand its range. The last year all-new Mazda CX-30 slots between the subcompact CX-3 and CX-5 models in the brand’s lineup. For the new model year, Mazda brings to the market its first all-electric vehicle MX-30 that is based on the CX-30. The 2021 Mazda CX-30, on the other hand, comes with a limited number of changes related to the equipment availability and several new features.

Following the last model year introduction, the CX-30 goes on sale with the same performance and appearance while there should be additional standard features and new wheel and color options.

The small Mazda CX-30 is a sportier alternative to the models such as the Honda HR-V, Chevy Trax, Subaru Crosstrek and Ford Ecosport. The model goes on sale with the upscale in-cab design and build quality. It also gets advanced safety equipment by default. The capable powertrain is also its strong side while delivering also controlled and refined ride.

2021 Mazda CX-30: Design

There was confusion when the Mazda CX-30 debuted that it could be the replacement for the similarly sized and named CX-3 but the model fills the gap between the CX-3 and fast-selling CX-5 in the brand’s SUV range. While the subcompact CX-3 is based on the Mazda2, the CX-30 shares most of the equipment with the Mazda3. The CX-30 rides on the 3.3 inches longer wheelbase than the CX-3 while it is 4.7 inches longer overall.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 remains the same structurally and visually while there should be new wheel and color patterns on offer. The model has similar flowing lines and curves as the structurally similar Mazda3 hatchback. The CX-30 uses a wider shield-shaped grille than one on the CX-3. It has also additional body cladding.

The new CX-30 will go on sale with the 18-inch wheels in most versions while the base variant gets the 16-inch units. Mazda will offer additional wheel patters and color options for the new model year.

Interior:

The cabin of the CX-30 is simple and classy. The model has an attractive dash with the driver-oriented curves and easy to use and understand controls.

Every Mazda is known for the great build quality and the CX-30 is no exception. The dash is treated with the soft-touch materials while the model gets gradually better upholstery with each upper trim.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 comes also with supportive seats. The cargo capacity is a bit above average with 20.2 cubic feet behind the third row.

Equipment:

The next CX-30 should return with the same trim range while there will be some changes in the equipment availability.

The base CX-30 gets alloy wheels, LED lighting, cloth upholstery, keyless ignition, etc. At the tech level, the base model possesses an 8.8-inch touchscreen, Apple Car Play and Android Auto capability, Bluetooth, two USB ports, etc.

Active safety systems are also part of the base equipment including forward collision warning with emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.

The next-grade CX-30 switches to the simulated leather upholstery and adds dual-zone automatic climate control. The near-top trim adds heated seats, Bose sound system and unique trim accents.

The top-grade CX-30 goes on sale with leather upholstery, a head-up display, adaptive lighting, a power liftgate, etc.

2021 Mazda CX-30: Performance

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 should retain the same engine under the hood without new options for the next model year.

A 2.5-liter inline-4 engine makes 186 hp and torque of 186 lb-ft. The power goes through the six-speed automatic transmission and the all-wheel drive is available in all trims. The all-wheel drive has an off-road mode.

The Mazda CX-30 provides great ride quality and has precise steering. The fuel efficiency is 25 mpg city, 33 highways with the front-wheel drive.  The all-wheel-drive version manages 24 mpg city and 32 highways.

The CX-30 based, all-electric MX-30 model gets power from the 141-hp, 195 lb-ft electric motor. It uses a small 35.5-kWh battery with the expected drive range around 124 miles.

2021 Mazda CX-30: Release, Price

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 should go on sale late in the year. The price should see limited corrections across the range. The current version is available from $21, 900.
