2021 Mazda CX-5: News, Design, Release

The compact-sized, five-seater Mazda CX-5 is both nice to see and drive and it provides also better than average interior utility and comfort. The agile and well-handling model is also strong on the efficiency and can be equipped with the Skyactiv-D diesel engine which boosts the towing as well as the fuel economy. For more responsive driving, the CX-5 relies on the turbocharged petrol unit but offers also a non-turbocharged version of this engine. The CX-5 is also well-equipped from the base version including active-safety equipment.

Mazda redesigned the fast-selling CX-5 for the 2017 model year while introduced a new round of upgrades for the 2019 version when diesel unit joined the equipment list alongside Apple car Play and Android Auto features and upgraded petrol unit.

As for the 2021 Mazda CX-5, the model will hit the market in a pretty much the same condition as the current version. Mazda won’t introduce significant upgrades until the arrival of the redesigned, third-generation version. There will again be revisions in the equipment organization and regular update of the tech features. The engine range will remain the same.

2021 Mazda CX-5: Design

The compact Mazda CX-5 is one of the best-looking models on the roads nowadays and that is the result of the brand’s dynamic KODO design philosophy. The model looks attractive and sophisticated from every point of view.

The front-end design is defined with the sleek, shield-shaped grille flanked by the thin LED headlamps. The sheet metal is sculpted with smooth lines and model just has a gently highlighted character line and fender flares. The rear is also modern-looking formed from the sculpted tailgate, sleek rear bumper, slim taillights and raked rear glass combined with the roof-mounted spoiler.

The 2021 CX-5 will keep all these visual attributes the same while the next evolution of the KODO design will be adopted with the arrival of the new-generation version.

Interior, Equipment:

The 2021 CX-5 will get upgraded tech features and make revisions in the equipment organization but there won’t design changes as the report suggest.

The CX-5 has a clean, driver-focused dash design with high positioned center display and signature shape of the air vents. The driver enjoys the well-positioned driving seat and great visibility. The seats provide long-ride comfort and there is a good amount of the head and legroom for passengers. The CX-5 isn’t, however, generous with the cargo space as the fast-selling rivals like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. The model will provide up to 60 cubic feet of the cargo room or up 31 cubes with the rear seats up.

The base CX-5 will provide a push-button start, LED headlights, cloth upholstery, leather-treated steering wheels and safety systems such as forward collision warning and mitigation, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Other safety systems including lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and more will be available in the base version but could again be wrapped in the optional package.

The upper grades will add more premium features like the leather upholstery, navigation, heated and ventilated seats, surround-view system, premium wood accents and more.

2021 Mazda CX-5: Powertrains

The Mazda CX-6 gets high scores for its sharp handling and responsive steering while provides also turbocharged and diesel power as well as high fuel economy.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 shouldn’t bring surprises regarding the power options and buyers will again have three versions to choose from.

A 2.5-liter non-turbo four-cylinder engine will provide the base-level propulsion with the output rated at 187 hp and 186 pound-feet of torque. The front-wheel drive will be in combination with the automatic transmission.

The next-level performance will provide a 2.5-liter turbocharged version of the engine with the output up to 250 hp and 310 pound-feet of torque. More towing and better fuel efficiency will guarantee a 2.2-liter turbocharged engine. This unit makes 168 hp and torque of 290 pound-feet.

The diesel mill should earn 28 mpg combined with the all-wheel drive while the turbocharged petrol should return 24 mpg combined in the same configuration.

2021 Mazda CX-5: Release, Price

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 will enter the market in fall 2020 for the new round with the mega-selling rivals like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, etc. The price should remain in the vicinity of the current with a starting point around $26, 000.
