2021 Mercedes-Benz GLB: Design

The recently all-new Mercedes GLB shares the DNA with the A-Class and GLA-Class models while the shape and look has more in common with the larger GLS-Class. The GLB sits on the front-wheel-drive MFA2 platform while riding on the 111.4-inch wheelbase. The model measures 182.4 inches in length which is just about an inch shorter than the compact GLC model.

The GLB has an upright and angular style a mix of the wagon and SUV. The grille and headlights are familiar brand’s style mixed with the sports-style front bumper. The roofline is tall and the model has subtly sculpted fender flares. The rear isn’t particularly interesting and there just a pair of wide taillights and straightforward tailgate and bumper.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLB will have more character when dressed with the AMG Line and Night appearance packages. They add specific grilles, wheels and metallic trim accents.

The new AMG GLB 35 version gets the same treatment as with the AMG Line package. Like other high-performance AMG, the GLB 35 gets sportier bumpers and wheels and AMG-branded grille.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLB: Performance

The next 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLB will continue to rely on the high-output, turbocharged inline-4 engine shared with the A-Class.

The base GLB 250 version gets 221 hp and torque of 258 lb-ft from the 2.0-liter turbo engine. The power is routed through the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to the front wheels. The GLB 250 4Matic version pairs the engine with an all-wheel drive which can send up to half power to the rear axle.

The GLB 35 version uses a more potent 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine good for 302 hp and torque of 295 lb-ft. The model uses also the launch control system. With additional ponies under the hood, the GLB 35 should hit 60 mph about 1.5 seconds faster than the base version.
