2021 Peugeot 5008: News, Specs, Price

The three-row SUV market continues to grow and Peugeot transformed recently the 5008 nameplate from the seven-seat MVP to the modern, seven-seat SUV. The flagship Peugeot SUV shares the styling and DNA with the smaller 3008 but adds the third row of seats. The model uses efficient engines and delivers a comfortable ride. The Peugeot’s largest SUV has also an excellent interior but it can’t be had with the all-wheel drive. The three-row 5008 competes against strong rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Nissan X-Trail, Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Santa Fe, Audi Q7 and others.

As for the next 2021 Peugeot 5008 version, the model should go on sale with a limited number of modifications as the recent reports indicate. As things now stand, there should not be any significant styling change. The model will also keep the same in-cab design but there should be several new options and touches. No signs also that Peugeot would change engine options for the new model year.

2021 Peugeot 5008: Design

The three-row Peugeot 5008 share the DNA with smaller 3008 and two models apply also the same design language.

The Peugeot 5008 is based on PSA Peugeot Citroen EMP2 platform that is used for the compact and mid-size cars. The platform features a highly modular design and thanks to the use of modern lightweight materials it is 70 kg lighter than the PF2 architecture it replaced.

From the visual perspective, the 5008 is almost identical to the 3008 from the front bumper until the rear doors. Behind the front doors, the model has a more upright tall design compared to the smaller 3008. The model has longer rear doors, the third row and more cargo room compared to the compact 3008.

As for the upcoming 2021 Peugeot 5008, the model should enter the new model year with minimal styling tweaks. There should be new color and wheel options in addition to some trim changes.

Interior:

The Peugeot 5008 has one of the best interiors in the class. The material and build quality are up to the class standards. The model uses the iCockpit design like the smaller 3008. A large 12.3-inch digital display is in front of the small steering wheel and an 8.0-inch infotainment screen sits high on the dash.

For the new model year, the 5008 should get updated software and a few new trim patterns. There will also be some changes to equipment availability.

At the comfort level, the Peugeot 5008 has supportive seats and room for up to seven. There is enough head and knee room in the first two rows while the third is primarily for the kids.

The cargo capacity is 167 liters behind the third row. When the front seats are only up, there are 952 liters of the cargo volume which grows to 1,060 liters with the last row taken out.

Equipment:

The next 2021 Peugeot 5008 should go on sale with more standard features and several new ones.

The base version will possess Apple Car Play and Android Auto, DAB radio, auto headlights and wipers, lane departure warning, cloth upholstery, etc. More safety equipment will be available in the next trim level including navigation, privacy glass, parking sensors, etc.

The GT gets sportier exterior and interior bits including also Nappa leather seats, surround-view cameras, a Focal premium sound system, wireless charging, etc.

The top grades get upgraded upholstery, heated seats, power and gesture tailgate, panoramic roof, 19-inch wheels and more.

2021 Peugeot 5008: Performance

The 2021 Peugeot 5008 should return with the same engine range as the reports suggest. No signs that the all-wheel-drive option would appear.

The engine range starts with a 1.2-liter PureTech 130 petrol engine good for 130 hp and 230 Nm of torque. A more powerful petrol unit is a 1.6-liter PureTech 180 good for 180 hp. The entry-level engine will be available with the six-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmission. A PureTech 180 petrol will be available only with the automatic transmission.

Buyers will also have a chance to pick one of two diesel units. The entry-level diesel 1.5-liter BlueHDi 130 makes 130 hp and can be had with manual and automatic transmission. A larger 2.0-liter BlueHDi is good for 180 hp and it is coupled with automatic transmission only.
