2021 Range Rover Velar: Changes, Equipment, Price

Jaguar Land Rover launched the compact Range Rover Velar for the 2018 model year to compete against some of the most recognizable names in the industry such as the Audi Q5, Porsche Macan and Mercedes GLC-Class. The Range Rover Velar received additional features in the base version and came with the restructured trim range for the 2020 model year. The 2020 version ditched also a diesel engine option but introduced a new supercharged V-8 unit. As the things now stand, the next 2021 Range Rover Velar should come with no significant visual or interior upgrades. The new model year should, however, bring new special edition versions.

JLR hasn’t come out yet with details about the next Range Rover Velar. We haven’t also had a chance to see a camouflaged prototype on the roads which would mean that the refreshed version is coming for the 2021 season. So, all chances are that the next Velar should come with a limited number of modifications with a possible introduction of the PHEV model and new special edition versions. The mid-updated version should hit the roads for the 2022 model year as the things now stand.

2021 Range Rover Velar: Design

The Range Rover Velar arrived with the brand’s new design language both inside and out. The model uses the Jaguar Land Rover D7a platform and shares many components with the Jaguar F-pace, XE and XF. The model rides on the 113.1-inch wheelbase while measuring 189.1 inches from bumper to bumper.

The next 2021 Range Rover Velar should retain the same exterior styling but new special edition versions should appear with the unique trim details and wheel styles.

The Velar’s prescience highlights sportiness and off-road talent.  The model has smooth body lines and balanced shape. The Velar employs modern LED headlights in every version with the new-generation grille design between them.

The profile is also smooth with retractable door handles and a sharp roofline. The rear is also elegant with horizontal taillights and a nicely integrated rear bumper.

The model comes with standard 19-inch wheels while upper grades get larger wheels and specific trim details. The new model year should bring new special edition versions with attractive trim inserts, specific painting and wheel designs.

Interior:

The cabin of the Range Rover Velar features also the brand’s new-generation design and there should not be notable upgrades for the new model year.  The new special edition versions will get premium upholstery and trim details.

Every Velar comes with high-quality materials and a multi-screen setup. The model has an excellent driving position and comfortable seats for five. The Velar provides around 34 cubic feet for the cargo behind the rear seats.

Equipment:

The base Velar comes with the 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, heated mirrors, LED headlights, etc. The entry-level model includes also quilted leather upholstery, Apple Car Play and Android Auto support, navigation, 11 speakers, blind-spot monitoring, etc.

The model will offer optional features and packages including Driver Assist with systems such as adaptive cruise control, surround-view cameras, lane centering assist, etc.

The upper grades get heated and ventilated seats, massage function, seat memory setting, upgraded leather, premium sound system, and more.

The SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition version combines performance and high-luxury attributes including sport-calibrated air suspension, upgraded brakes, etc.

2021 Range Rover Velar: Performance

The 2021 Range Rover Velar should return with the JLR’s Ingenium four-cylinder engines and supercharged V-6 and V-8 units. Every model has an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel-drive system.

The base-level power delivers a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for 247 hp and torque of 269 lb-ft. The next-level power provides a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 unit making 340 hp and torque of 332 lb-ft. A more potent supercharged V-6 unit produces 380 hp and torque of 332 lb-ft. The highest-level performance generates a 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 engine. This unit is good for 550 hp and torque of 502 lb-ft.

The next Range Rover Velar could gain the plug-in hybrid version with a similar setup as in the Evoque PHEV.

2021 Range Rover Velar: Release, Price

The 2021 Range Rover Velar should come late in the year. Closer to the arrival more precise details will appear. The Velar should again cost from about $57, 000. With additional features, the price will grow fast and go above $90, 000 in the top-spec version.
