The popular VW Tiguan entered the second generation for the 2018 model year and arrived much longer to the US while buyers in Europe prioritize smaller dimensions and sporty ride. The model added additional standard equipment including automatic emergency braking for the 2020 version. For the next model year, the model will be halfway through the generation cycle and the 2021 VW Tiguan should arrive in the facelifted form.

The refreshed Tiguan should appear with slight styling updates in the US while the European version should also get a performance Tiguan R version. The Tiguan will again provide three rows of seat but while the first two rows will be spacious and with the good seats the third row be cramped. The model will also bring up to 73,5 cubic feet of cargo capacity.

Buyers will also have a long-range of trims options to choose from. The model will start with cloth upholstery and upgrade to leather padding in top trims. The base equipment will also include automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Powering the 2021 VW Tiguan in the US should again be a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The fuel economy should remain 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway with the front-wheel drive.

The Euro-spec Tiguan should get revised engine range and according to some sources could also introduce the mild-hybrid support. The Tiguan R version is also expected to appear on the Old Continent with the 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 engine coupled with the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The power should be above 300 hp. The R version will also come with tweaked chassis and suspension plus larger brakes.

The refreshed 2021 VW Tiguan will appear in mid-2020. The price should see just small corrections. The current version starts from around $25, 000.
