2022 Cadillac XT5: Changes, Specs, Price

Cadillac joined some key SUV segments late but the brand has made huge progress in recent years. The Cadillac XT5 is the brand’s rival in the fast-selling mid-size class where it is an alternative to the models such as the Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes GLE, Audi Q5 and Lexus RX. The model debuted for the 2017 model year and received the mid-cycle update for the 2020 season. The 2021 version added wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 should come with minimal changes and improvements while the all-new version is expected for the 2023 model year.

The 2022 model will make some changes in the equipment availability and add several new options. The trim range should remain the same but new package options should appear. The model will also continue to rely on the same powertrain options. Every version will come well-equipped including an array of active safety systems.

The next-generation version should hit the market for the 2023 model year. The redesigned XT5 will get the all-electric version. The model should adopt some styling cues from the Cadillac EV concept. It will switch to the new platform while should retain similar dimensions. There could also be the plug-in hybrid version.

2022 Cadillac XT5: Design

Following the recent mid-cycle update for the 2020 model year, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 should return without any significant styling update. The 2022 model should be the last version of the first-generation XT5. The new-generation model should switch from the current C1XX platform to the new VSS architecture. The redesigned XT5 should also come with a sleeker exterior design inspired by the Cadillac EV concept.

The mid-size Cadillac XT5 sports a business-like appearance. The front-section gets attention with the corporate shield-shaped grille flanked by modern headlights with signature lighting elements. The profile features a conventional design as well as the rear side.

The model will go on sale with 18-inch alloy wheels in the base version while upper grades and available packages will offer larger 20-inch units. The new model year will bring a new wheel and color options.

Interior, Equipment:

The cabin of the next 2022 Cadillac XT5 won’t receive any significant upgrade. The model should also return with the same trim range but new package options and more standard equipment should be at disposal.

The Cadillac XT5 has a well-built cabin and it uses upscale materials. The controls are well arranged and easy to use and recognize. The model offers a rich semi-aniline leather mixed with open-pore wood. Black and chrome accents are also available. The model provides up to 63 cubic feet for the cargo.

At the equipment level, the base version will include features such as simulated leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and ignition, heated front seats, etc. Standard tech features will be an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto, eight speakers, Wi-Fi hotspot, and safety systems such as lane departure warning, forward collision mitigation, parking sensors, etc. 

The mid-range versions will switch to the leather upholstery and add also automatic wipers, panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, blind-spot monitoring, etc. Available package options will offer additional tech and comfort features.

The Sport version will also include specific styling and in-cab enhancements including sport-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers, 20-inch wheels, etc.

2022 Cadillac XT5: Performance

There shouldn’t be surprises regarding the powertrain options of the next 2022 Cadillac XT5. The model should offer the all-electric version and eventually the plug-in hybrid setup with the second-generation version.

The 2022 model will continue to exploit a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine good for 237 hp and torque of 258 lb-ft. An alternative will be a 3.6-liter V-6 capable of producing 310 hp and torque of 271 lb-ft. Both engines will be in pair with the 8-speed automatic transmission while buyers will choose between the front- and all-wheel drive.

At the efficiency level, buyers will get around 28 mpg highway or 24 combined with the front-wheel-drive, four-cylinder-powered version. The same configuration with the V-6 engine under the hood should return 26 mpg highway and 21 combined.

2022 Cadillac XT5: Release, Price

Without any significant upgrade, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 should again be available from around $43, 995. The model will go on sale late in 2021.
