2022 Chevy Equinox: Refreshed, Changes, Price

The compact-sized Chevy Equinox was initially expedited to get the mid-cycle update for the 2021 model year but the ongoing pandemic pushed the launch of the refreshed version for the 2022 season. The 2022 Chevy Equinox comes with the updated front and rear styling implementing the brand’s newest design language cues. The brand introduces also additional sport-style RS trim with unique exterior details. There are also several in-cab changes across the trim range. The refreshed Equinox returns also a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine option.

The current, fourth-generation Equinox arrived for the 2018 model year based on the new platform and resized to the compact class proportions. The newest Equinox competes with some of the best-selling models such as the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester, Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V. The model returns a stable and precise ride over most surfaces. The Equinox gets also high ratings for the good interior space. It comes also equipped with standard active safety systems and modern connectivity features.

The upcoming refreshed 2022 Chevy Equinox comes with the updated front and rear-end styling that brings it in line with the brand’s newest design language. The model remains unchanged structurally.

Changes on the model’s front include a new grille style flanked by the redesigned headlights. The new grille, headlights and refreshed lower front fascia resemble those on the recently all-new Chevy Blazer. A new grille is smaller and more elegant. The refreshed front-end sports also new slim but sharp-looking headlights. The new version has also a more aggressive front bumper.

The profile of the model retains the same body sculpting and styling cues while the rear gets refreshed taillights with attractive new graphics and a reworked rear bumper.

The newly available RS trim adds blacked-out trim details and dark 19-inch wheels for a sportier appearance.

Interior, Equipment:

The cabin of the refreshed 2022 Chevy Equinox gets also several new details. The new RS trim includes black upholstery adorned with red stitching and there is also a unique shift knob. The range-topping Premier version adds gloss black inserts on the center console and attractive French stitching.

The Equinox has a nice, curvaceous dash with easy to use controls. The model’s seats are supportive and with standard power-adjustable function. The cargo capacity is up to 63.9 cubic feet or there are 29.9 cubic feet with all seats up.

At the equipment level, the base model comes with chrome trim elements, an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, keyless entry and ignition, SiriusXM satellite radio, etc. The base version gets also a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, 4G LTE and six speakers. Standard is also active safety systems such as automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning and available adaptive cruise control. 

The model will also offer the Convenience and Confidence packages with elements such as dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power liftgate, heated front seats, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, etc.

Upper grades add a larger 8-inch touchscreen, upgraded upholstery, wireless charging, a hands-free tailgate, driver-seat memory function and more.

2022 Chevy Equinox: Powertrains

At the performance front, the updated 2022 Chevy Equinox returns with the same, standard 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The engine comes in pair with the six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive optional. The base turbo-4 engine is good for 170 hp and torque of 203 lb-ft.

For the 2022 model year, Chevy returns a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine option after a year of absence. A 2.0-liter turbocharged unit powers also the Chevy Blazer and Cadillac XT4. The newly available engine makes 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The previous 2.0-liter turbo-4 unit delivered 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The new 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine should be paired with the 9-speed automatic transmission.

At the efficiency level, the base turbo-4 engine with the front-wheel drive should score 26 mpg city and 31 highways. With the all-wheel drive, the score will lose 1 mpg from both numbers. A more powerful turbo-4 unit with 2WD will return 22 mpg city and 29 highways. This engine with the 4WD will retain 22 mpg city but should score 28 mpg on the highways.

2022 Chevy Equinox: Release, Price

The current version starts from $23, 800 but the refreshed 2022 Chevy Equinox should cost slightly more across the range. The updated version should be available later in the year.
