The upcoming 2022 Land Rover Discovery has been caught on cameras. New model will be completely revealed at some point in 2021 before its sales begin later in the year. Discovery is a model that manages good sales but Land Rover is willing to provide another facelift. Just like the outgoing model, a new one will also get mid-cycle refreshments.
From what we saw in the spy photos, a new model is not drastically changed at all. All of the updates are subtle and the front fascia will suffer the biggest ones. The interior will also gain a couple of improvements and Land Rover said the all-new Discovery will be greener than ever before. This clearly suggests some sort of electrification, possibly a hybrid.
2022 Land Rover Discovery Spy Shots
The all-new 2022 Land Rover Discovery will get a mid-cycle facelift. After the latest spy photos, some things are familiar. The spied prototype wears a mild camouflage so most of the updates are visible at first glance. The front part will suffer the biggest upgrades. For a start, a new pair of LED headlights are available.
Thanks to that, this SUV now looks more unique and it comes with more character. To the sides, styling is very attractive and the prototype wears the same black wheels as the previous model. The rear section will suffer minor updates, slightly reshaped taillights and bolder bumper are barely visible refreshments.
Interior Updates
On the inside, the new 2022 Land Rover Discovery will mostly remain. The interior layout is exactly the same and even the cabin design will remain intact. Discovery SUV offers both two-row and three-row setups, where the third-row of seats are reserved for upper trim levels such as Landmark and HSE Luxury. All of the lower trim levels are offering a five-seat configuration. The Discovery model provides around 10.1 cubic feet of cargo area, which isn’t a lot.
However, folding the seats will provide up to 83.7 cubic feet of space. The base Discovery SE trim comes with standard dual-zone climate control, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, sunroof, and leather upholstery. Moreover, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen is once again in the offer. For 2022, Discovery will introduce updated infotainment and some new driver-assistance features.
Hybrid Power is Coming
The regular 2022 Land Rover Discovery will continue to offer a 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine with 340 hp. Optionally, you can get a 3.0-liter V6 diesel that provides 254 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. If you want better fuel efficiency and better towing capacity, diesel is definitely a better choice. As before, Land Rover offers an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The previous Discovery model offers a towing capacity of 8,200 pounds. On the other hand, Land Rover promised greener powertrain options. This clearly suggests some sort of electrification, probably a hybrid model. The newest reports are suggesting a plug-in hybrid variant with a 48-volt setup but this is not official yet.
2022 Land Rover Discovery Price and Release Date
From what we know, the new 2022 Land Rover Discovery will get a small jump in price. New model will now cost $52,500 and the range-topping HSE Luxury trim level will cost almost $70,000. The sales will begin in the second half of 2021 and Discovery SUV will rival models such as Volvo XC90 and Acura MDX.
