The current, first-generation, compact-sized Lexus NX arrived for the 2015 model year and has been around without significant upgrades since then. However, as the reports and leaked details suggest the all-new 2022 Lexus NX should come based on the new platform and available with the plug-in hybrid setup. The powertrain range should also include a newly developed 2.4-liter turbo-4 engine. The new version should grow in size and come with modernized exterior styling and cabin. The model will employ the brand’s newest tech and safety systems and go on sale loaded with convenience features.
The Lexus NX is the brand’s rival in the crowded compact class where are the names such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, Range Rover Evoque, Acura RDX, etc. The NX is a good-seller for the brand with an average of 58, 000 examples per year in the US since its introduction. The model gets attention with its chiseled styling, spacious cabin, comfortable seats and lots of standard high-tech features.
2022 Lexus NX: Design
The next 2022 Lexus NX should come with a full-scale redesign and based on Toyota’s ubiquitous TNGA platform that underpins the recently redesigned Toyota RAV4. The Toyota New Global Architecture is modular, unibody design introduced with the new-gen Prius. Compared to previous designs the platform provides increased stiffness, a lower center of gravity, and better handling. The design allows front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations. It can also implement electrified powertrains. The NX model will use the TNGA-K version of the platform reserved for the compact and mid-size crossovers and SUVs.
As the leaked details suggest the redesigned Lexus NX should grow slightly in size with benefits in the comfort and cargo capacity. The new version should drive on the same wheelbase as the hot-seller Toyota RAV4 but be 30 mm longer.
From the visual perspective, the all-new NX will again employ the signature spindle grille but a slightly evolved version. The model will also get modernized headlights with L-shaped signature lighting. The model should again come with the expressive body sculpting but sources suggest a slightly toned-down design.
From the profile, the NX will retain the smooth, coupe-like style while the rear should sport new taillights and a slightly reworked tailgate and bumper.
Inside the cabin, the new 2022 Lexus NX will benefit from the improved comfort and upgraded technologies. The model should also come with an upgraded dash design and improved rear-seat comfort.
The upcoming NX should also introduce a significantly improved infotainment system possibly without a controversial remote touch input system.
Every NX will come well-equipped with stand Apple Car Play and Android Auto, a 12-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, leather seats and steering wheel, etc. The model will also employ modern safety technologies from the entry-level version including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning and mitigation, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, etc.
Upper grades will add navigation, heated and ventilated seats, upgraded upholstery, premium sound system, surround-view cameras, etc. There will also be the F Sport version with sportier styling, seats and suspension.
2022 Lexus NX: Performance
The redesigned 2022 Lexus NX should borrow powertrains from the RX and RAV4. There will be a potent plug-in hybrid version with the setup sourced from the RAV4 Prime. The new NX should also employ a new turbocharged engine.
The Lexus NX PHEV will combine a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with front and rear electric motors fed by a lithium-ion battery of unknown capacity. The system should provide 302 hp and a pure electric range of about 39 miles.
The redesigned NX should also be available with the new 2.4-liter turbo-4 engine producing upward of 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. The model will again be available with both two- and all-wheel drive.
The current version relies on the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for 235 hp and torque of 258 lb-ft. The NX 300h mixes a 2.5-liter engine, two electric motors, battery pack and continuously variable transmission for the combined output of 194 hp.
