2022 Lincoln Navigator: Refresh, Changes, Price

Lincoln’s full-size Navigator SUV initialized its fourth generation for the 2018 model year and the brand is now working on the refreshed 2022 Lincoln Navigator version to keep pace with the recently all-new GM’s full-size models. The prototype version was spotted testing and heavy camouflage on the model’s front and rear suggests extensive styling updates. The mid-cycle refresh should also bring various in-cab upgrades including an improved infotainment system and possible dash design changes. The brand will also make changes in equipment availability and add new options. The refreshed Navigator should also introduce the Ford F-150-based hybrid powertrain option.

The full-size Navigator has a super-spacious cabin backed by the mighty twin-turbo V-6 engine and modern equipment. The model comes also well-equipped from the base version while offering also a long options list. The high-appearance SUV has also high towing capacity but the off-road capability is limited. Rivals include the Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon, Infiniti QX80, Mercedes GLS, Lexus LX, etc.

2022 Lincoln Navigator: Design

While the 2022 Lincoln Navigator retains the Ford T3 platform that shares with the Ford Expedition and F-150, the model enters the new model year with the revised front and rear styling. The body-on-frame, full-size SUV is testing in the prototype form and the amount of camouflage on its front and rear suggests notable styling updates.

Despite the prototype version was spotted heavily disguised we can detect some changes and what Lincoln is preparing. The refreshed model will go on sale with the modified grille that is obviously larger than the current version and it is a known trend in the industry these days. The grille will grow in height coming in the mix with the reworked headlights that extend to the front fenders. The lower front fascia of the model gets also upgrades inspired by the Lincoln Aviator.

The prototype version has also the hood, front and rear fenders covered with the camouflage but the body sculpting doesn’t seem much different from the current.

The rear of the model should also borrow from the Lincoln Aviator with the modifications on the model’s taillights, tailgate trim and rear bumper. Lincoln will also offer the new Navigator with fresh color and wheel combinations.

Interior, Equipment:

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator will also benefit from the in-cab upgrades but it’s not clear yet what the brand has in the mind.  The model should go on sale with the revised dash design and larger center touchscreen. The current model includes a 10-inch touchscreen but the refreshed version should offer a larger unit at least as an option. The 2022 version should also expand the list of standard equipment and offer new material patterns.

The base model will go on sale with tri-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, 14 speakers, active safety equipment, etc. The safety suite will include systems such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, etc.

The upper grades will increase the number of premium features including upgraded upholstery, 30-way power-adjustable seats, a 20-speaker sound system, unique color schemes and much more.

2022 Lincoln Navigator: Performance

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator will repeat the twin-turbo V-6 powertrain but should add the Ford F-150-based hybrid setup.

The full-size Navigator gets 450 hp and torque of 500 lb-ft from the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine. The engine operates with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can choose between the rear- and all-wheel drive.

The hybrid version should join the range with similar elements as in the Ford F-150 Hybrid. The system should include a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine optimized to work with a 35-kW electric motor and a battery pack. We will see what performance the hybrid version will provide but it should be close to that for the Ford F-150. It’s not clear what battery the system will utilize and what effect will be on the model efficiency.

The current non-hybrid Navigator scores up to 16 mpg city and 22 highways.

2022 Lincoln Navigator: Release, Price

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator is still several months far from the debut if not a year. The refreshed model should come with the revised price with a slight increase across the range. The base variant should be available from about $76, 500.
