The spy photos of the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander are available now. This SUV is getting some exciting refreshments and some of them are significant. The 2022MY will be redesigned and the spied prototype is showing exactly that. This SUV will be fully revealed in two weeks and we are hoping to see an attractive exterior design and more modern features. Mitsubishi is still behind other established rivals, but its SUVs are very competitive in some countries in Asia.
New Outlander will share a couple of things with the Nissan Rogue model, which is exciting. Interior changes will also happen, and this SUV will deploy a 2.5-liter engine, which is another novelty. Not surprisingly, Rogue also uses the same powertrain option. However, we also expect to see some sort of hybrid variant as well.
2022 Outlander Redesign
New 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander will surely gain a more modern and more attractive design. However, we don’t have all of the details and spy shots are not showing that much. Its debut is scheduled for February 16, so that’s when we’ll know all of the updates. At this moment, we know some things from the spy shots.
New images are showing the next-gen Outlander with the completely new front fascia. Slimmer LED headlights are visible, along with the redesigned grille. The rear section wears new bolder bumper and improved taillights graphics. We can also spot new exhaust tips, which clearly suggest a new engine under the hood.
Interior Overhaul
We know the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander will be more modern on the inside. And while the spy photos are not showing interior details, the next-gen model will surely deliver a new cabin design. According to Mitsubishi, the new Outlander will be the best-equipped SUV so far. On top of that, the new model will introduce more high-quality materials, so the comfort will be better.
On the other hand, the interior layout won’t change at all and there will be room for seven or eight persons. The upcoming Outlander will offer larger eight-inch and nine-inch displays. The infotainment system is getting an update and touchscreen options will be taken from the Nissan Rogue. New driver-assistance aids will become available, but we are waiting for Mitsubishi to reveal the complete interior.
New Engine
If the latest reports are correct, new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander will arrive with the all-new engine option. Again, a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is borrowed from the Nissan Rogue. In Rogue, this unit develops 181 horsepower and it replaces the aging 2.4-liter variant. A continuously variable transmission is offered as standard, and the AWD system will be optional.
If you want more power, the optional 3.0-liter V6 engine generates 224 hp and up to 215 lb-ft of torque. What we don’t know is the rumored PHEV version. If this really happens, a 2.0-liter engine will be paired with two electric motors and it will provide around 190 horses. On top of that, Outlander PHEV will deliver 22 miles of electric range.
2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Price, Release Date
The next-gen 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander will be revealed this month and it will go on sale later this year. The sales should begin in the second half of 2021 and the price will now start at around $27,000. If the Outlander PHEV truly arrives, its price will start at over $30,000.
