The upcoming 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero is nearing the end of production. This is official, and Mitsubishi will deliver the Final Edition later this year. This variant is heading to Australia and possibly some other parts of the world as well. However, 800 units will be sold Down Under.
No matter which trim level you opt for, Pajero offers a turbodiesel engine with more than enough power. The hybrid powertrain was clearly just a rumor, as Mitsu has no plans to electrify its famous SUV. The legendary Pajero is about to retire, so here’s everything you need to know about this Final Edition.
2022 Pajero Design
The 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero, won’t introduce an exterior redesign. This makes sense, as Mitsubishi decided to end the production of its famous nameplate. Because of that, Pajero will gain small visual upgrades and slightly more luxury. Some things will remain, so you can easily notice Pajero’s recognizable boxy shape and rugged design.
The styling, on the other hand, looks refreshed and obviously more contemporary. We don’t know all of the specifics, but Pajero will probably deploy a couple of cues that you can find on the current Outlander SUV. Lastly, the manufacturer will add an all-new hood protector, rubber cargo liner, and numerous Final Edition badging.
Interior Gets More Luxury
Interior of the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero is also getting some sort of mid-cycle update. Again, Pajero is retiring, so there’s no need to make significant changes. Instead, Mitsubishi will introduce new and nice touches, but most of the interior will remain. For an instance, Pajero now offers new carpet floor mats and leather-wrapped service, and manual book.
The Exceed trim level comes with new leather upholstery, brushed aluminum pedals, and the new sunroof. This is what we know so far. However, Pajero could get more standard features and new safety aids. The manufacturer will reveal more details in the coming weeks.
Pajero Offers Turbodiesel Engine
Many reports predicted the hybrid powertrain for the next-gen Pajero. However, a new generation is not happening, unfortunately. Instead, the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Final Edition comes with a 3.2-liter engine. It is a four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, available in all trim levels. This powertrain develops 189 horsepower and up to 325 lb-ft of torque. Mitsubishi offers a five-speed automatic transmission.
A hybrid powertrain could happen in the near future, as the smaller Pajero Sport model will continue with the production. The speculations are saying the Pajero Sport will borrow a hybrid setup from the Outlander SUV. It is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that works with an electric motor. This version will allegedly deliver up to 30 miles of all-electric driving range.
2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Price, Release Date
The price is not available at the moment, but the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero will most likely cost around $33,000. As we said, 800 units will be sold in Australia and Pajero will hopefully reach some other markets as well.
The sales will begin later in 2021 or in the first quarter of 2022. Pajero is an iconic 4×4 SUV and this model has been around for 40 years. Now, Pajero Sport remains the only Pajero available. It is a smaller variant based on the Triton/L200 pickup truck.
