The compact-sized Porsche Macan debuted for the 2015 model year and it became an instant hit and the brand’s best-selling vehicle. The model received a new in-cab design with an upgraded infotainment system and subtle styling updates for the 2019 season. The mid-cycle refresh brought also a more powerful 3.0-liter turbo-6 engine. Porsche revealed also its intentions with the new generation Macan and announced an all-electric version in February 2019. The all-new, electric 2022 Porsche Macan should arrive in 2022 and co-exist with the upgraded gas- and hybrid-powered models.

The brand’s first-ever all-electric SUV will ride on a new electric platform co-developed with Audi. The new platform will implement the newest technologies including the latest battery and charging advancements. Like every Porsche, the model will deliver blazing performance backed up by the well-controlled handling. The new-generation Macan should also come with evolutionary styling changes and a redesigned cabin.

As for the conventionally powered version, there are contradicting reports. Some reports suggest that the petrol-powered versions will co-exist with the all-new, electric model in the updated form until 2024. There are also reports that the all-new, regular version should also appear as the brand doesn’t want to lose sales of the conventionally powered variant.

While the all-new 2022 Porsche Macan should come with a relatively familiar skin, big-deal changes will happen under the skin. The electrified Macan will use a new Premium Platform Electric architecture co-developed with Audi. The brand’s new underpinning is generally similar to the MEB platform and it will allow rear- and all-wheel-drive setups. What is important, a new design is more modern and advanced and it will implement 800-Volt technology and a new charging capacity of 350 kW. The new PPE architecture will also implement all-wheel steering, torque vectoring and air suspension.

From the visual perspective, the all-new, electric Macan should come with relatively familiar styling. Porsche is known for giving evolutionary styling upgrades to the new-generation models. The all-electric Macan should keep a similar body shape updated with the brand’s newest styling cues similar to what we can see on the new Taycan. The model should come with grille-less front facia and new design headlights. The body sculpting should be similar with slightly more pronounced fender flares and reworked rear and rear pillar. The rear will again adapt the full-width taillights.

As for the conventional version, some reports suggest it should come on the updated MEB Evo platform and with the styling similar to the all-electric version.

Interior, Equipment:

There are no many details about the in-cab design of the all-electric 2022 Porsche Macan. The changes are expected to be evolutionary. The new-generation Macan should come with slightly larger proportions and benefits related to interior comfort and cargo capacity.

The model will go on sale with the premium features from the base version. The entry-level version should come with partial leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, WiFi hotspot, large center display and more. 

Upper grades will offer more premium features and there will also be a long list of stand-alone options such as adaptive sport seats, adaptive air suspension, Burmester sound system.

2022 Porsche Macan: Performance

Porsche revealed already that the new-generation, all-electric 2022 Porsche Macan will be based on the Premium Platform Electric architecture that will also underpin premium products from the VW Group family. The new platform will allow the adoption of the all-electric powertrain and will also come with the all-wheel steering, torque vectoring and air suspension. Reports indicate that the regular Macan could shift to the MEB Evo platform.

The all-electric Macan should use a similar setup as the Taycan Cross Turismo. The system should include two electric motors fed by the battery. The model will be the all-wheel drive with one engine responsible for the front axle and the second for the rear. The range should be above 300 miles. The model will use 800-Volt architecture.

The gas-powered Macan should come with a similar powertrain range as the current generation version.

2022 Porsche Macan: Release, Price

The 2022 Porsche Macan should arrive sometime in 2022. The price of the electric version should be high above the current base version which starts from $50, 900.

More details about the new-generation Macan will emerge in 2021 and clarify what intention Porsche has with the petrol-powered version.
