2022 Volvo XC90 Ready For the Next-Gen Changes

The upcoming 2022 Volvo XC90 is reportedly in the works. This SUV is one year away and it will offer both hybrid and all-electric powertrain options. We don’t know if the gasoline engine will be in the offer or not. Some things are still a mystery. However, we know the most important details and some of them are very exciting.

Yes, this could be the last time Volvo will offer a petrol unit in its famous SUV. On the other hand, the Swedish manufacturer will focus on autonomous driving capability. Moreover, an all-electric model is a highlight at the moment. We expect numerous changes in terms of exterior and interior design as well. This means the price will increase for 2022MY.

2022 XC90 Redesign

The next-gen 2022 Volvo XC90 will continue with the modern appearance and very stylish design. However, some cosmetic upgrades are about to happen. Various reports are predicting small dimensional changes. The reason for that is a new SPA platform. Moreover, other XC models will ride on the same architecture in the future.

As for the XC90, the front fascia gets new headlamps and a more upright design. We are waiting for Volvo to launch its brand-new XC100 model. This version will reveal the brand’s new design language that will be present on the next XC90 SUV.

Interior Upgrades

The all-new 2022 Volvo XC90 will introduce a couple of interior changes. The goal is to modernize the cabin and provide even better comfort. This is a luxury SUV full of technology. Whatsoever, it is perhaps one of the most modern SUVs you can get. The reason for that is Volvo’s autonomous driving systems. Volvo plans to introduce Level 4 autonomy for 2022MY. This level allows hands-free and eye-free driving.

Swedish manufacturer said the goal is to offer Level 5 autonomous driving as soon as possible. Dimensional changes will provide even more interior room, which is great. Trim levels won’t change. This means the base trim will once again feature a moonroof, power-adjustable features, and the newest infotainment system. Moreover, we expect more standard equipment and new optional driver-assistance aids.

New XC90 is Going All-Electric

At this point, it is hard to say if a gasoline engine will be in the offer. The 2022 Volvo XC90 could be the last model that offers any sort of traditional combustion engine. However, nothing is official yet and Volvo is yet to unveil all details. New architecture means we expect to see both hybrid and all-electric powertrain options.

Unfortunately, exact specs are not available yet and are almost impossible to predict. For now, XC90 SUV will offer at least two electrified versions and this is the most important thing. More details will become available in the coming months.

2022 Volvo XC90 Price and Release Date

The price of the new 2022 Volvo XC90 will start at $50,000 or slightly below that. The upper trim levels are available for $65,000 and above. As for the release date, Volvo will launch its new XC90 in the second half of 2021.
