The forthcoming 2023 BMW iX is an all-electric SUV with so much to offer. This model made its debut this year, so the 2023MY will introduce a couple of upgrades. Visually, changes are minor, and even the interior will gain a couple of small updates. However, the M60 high-performance model will join the lineup.
This model will produce 610 horsepower and it will have a range of 280 miles. BMW says that the M60 variant will provide incredible acceleration and much more. As for the regular iX SUV, it will provide the same performance as the outgoing model. As before, the iX will compete with other electric SUVs in the segment, including Tesla Model X, Rivian R1S, and Audi e-Tron.
BMW iX and iX M60 Specs
The base 2023 BMW iX xDrive50 will remain intact in terms of performance. This version comes with a pair of electric motors, producing 516 horsepower with a standard AWD system. This model hits 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. However, the novelty is a new M60 model. It is a high-performance version with 610 horsepower. This variant will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, per source. BMW will also provide a rear-wheel-steering system and an adjustable air suspension as an option.
These features are standard in the M60. The mid-size SUV comes with a larger 106.3-kWh battery, providing around 325 miles of driving range on a single charge. The high-performance model will provide around 280 miles. BMW offers the DC fast charging capability as standard. Thanks to that, you can charge your SUV from 10 to 80 percent in half an hour or slightly above that. Of course, you can also charge this model using a Level 2 home charging station.
Interior Updates
The next 2023 BMW iX will continue to offer a very premium cabin design. Dimensionally, this model provides the same amount of space as the mid-size X5 SUV. We think BMW did a great job in creating a simple cabin design mixed with lots of high-tech features. One of the highlights is a large curved touchscreen instrument panel.
On top of that, the hexagonal-shaped steering wheel grabs instant attention. The iX comes with a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, genuine leather, faux leather materials, and a premium sound system. The BMW iX comes with an updated iDrive8 infotainment system, using a 14.9-inch touchscreen. There is also a 12.3-inch digital gauge display.
Minor Styling Changes
The 2023 BMW iX makes heavy use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic and aluminum. This makes this SUV lighter than its competitors. In terms of proportions, the iX is compatible with the midrange BMW X5. The wheelbase is similar, with the BMW iX wheelbase being 1.0 inches longer. Reportedly, the SUV comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels.
However, 21-inch and 22-inch rims are available as options. BMW claims that the rear of the next SUV will be muscular and the front will be smooth. This shows a grille inspired by the M4 variant. This grid houses various sensors and radar equipment and is basically a closed plate. Unlike some other BMW models, the iX has a cleaner exterior design.
2023 BMW iX Price and Release Date
The starting price of the new 2023 BMW iX will be around $86,000. On the other hand, the brand-new M60 high-performance version will cost $106,000. BMW will launch a new mid-size all-electric SUV at some point during the second half of 2022.
