The current model will remain in production for a few more years, while the successor model probably will be Toyota 4Runner in 2023. These are the latest reports about this incredible model. This suggests that the following version will be launched at some point in 2022. This fits wonderfully with the timeline of Toyota because the automaker is rather busy developing the new Tundra. Models such as Land Cruiser and 4Runner come next and we expect quite a lot from them too.
2023 4Runner Redesign
The next makeover will undoubtedly bring many new things, but it is very important to note that the 2023 Toyota 4Runner is not far from its original roots. We are on the verge of seeing a true body-on-frame layout based on TNGA, the new Tundra architecture. The new design is modular so that the whole roster of Toyota’s body-on-frame products is underpinned by the same platform. This means a lot of new things for the 2023 4Runner, starting with significant savings in weight. We also hope to see superior driving characteristics, greater comfort, and more.
The first thing that springs to mind is styling when it comes to the exterior design. The current generation has been upgraded once, but this update has not been particularly large. Naturally, that revamp will bring a totally new style and we assume that the corporation will not experiment too much with the new model. As stated previously, we do not anticipate considerable changes in terms of dimensions. So, no major improvement in interior space will happen this time. The new model will have three rows of seats, but the third row will be uncomfortably cramped.
New Powertrain Option a Possibility
The upcoming 2023 Toyota 4Runner could gain a new engine. The current 4.0-liter V6 could remain, but this is unlikely to happen. The problem with this engine is not its power, but the poor fuel efficiency. Instead, the new 4Runner could offer a new 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine. The same unit powers the current Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
According to various reports, this engine will be able to produce around 300 horsepower. Toyota will provide an eight-speed automatic transmission and some rumors are also suggesting a ten-speed gearbox. Optionally, 4Runner will also arrive with a hybrid option. However, this is not official yet and we are waiting for Toyota to reveal more details.
2023 Toyota 4Runner Price and Release Date
The price of the new 2023 Toyota 4Runner will start at $36,000 or slightly above that. Reportedly, this SUV will go on sale in the second half of 2022.
