2020 Dodge Durango: Design, Specs, Price

The current generation, mid-size Dodge Durango has been around since the 2011 model year just like its stablemate, the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 2020 Dodge Durango shares the assembly lines, underpinning, powertrains and running gear with the legendary Grand Cherokee and despite being among the oldest designs in the class still manages to be appealing to the buyers.

This three-row crossover SUV provides extraordinarily towing capability, powerful engines, surprisingly comfortable third row and can also tackle dirt trails. Thanks to the 2014 facelift and muscle-car like styling the model are also appealing to the eye and the modern Uconnect system is also its strong card.

As for the 2020 Dodge Durango, all circumstances pointing out that things should remain pretty much the same. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles confirmed that the new generation Durango is coming but hasn’t specified the timeline. Considering that we haven’t seen the prototype version of the next-generation Durango yet, the redesigned model won’t likely come in time for the 2020 model year as some reports indicated. The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee has, however, been spotted testing and should arrive in late 2020 as the 2021 model. It could also be the case with the all-new Durango.

2020 Dodge Durango: Design

The Durango’s muscular look not present in other SUV models is likely one among other key reasons why this model is resisting to the time. The 2020 Durango has sharp front-end styling which gets a new dimension with the scooped hood and sportier front bumper and grille on some versions. The crosshair grille style has also survived on this version while the new Ram trucks discontinued it.

The rear section of the model also looks nice thanks to the modern, full-width taillights and sports rear bumper. The model will change the style of grille depending on the trim option and will appear with the crosshair design with a black background or with more chrome in Citadel version. The GT, R/T, and SRT version will get special grille design like on the muscle cars.

The size and design of wheels will also change with each version and the 2020 Dodge Durango will start with 18-inch alloy wheels and switch to the 20-inch units in upper grades. There will also be various paint job options which also provide a unique visual impression.

Interior, Equipment:

The next Durango will also stay familiar style inside the cabin for the new model year. The model’s interior is more conservative than exterior but it delivers the class best passenger space and significant cargo capacity. The model also comes with the choice of two large displays and with the fast-responsive interface and Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

The 2020 Dodge Durango will provide tri-zone climate control, keyless entry and ignition, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth upholstery and more in the base SXT version.

The next in the line model will add a power liftgate, power driver’s seat, satellite radio, rear parking sensors, remote ignition, more aggressive styling elements, etc.

The Citadel version will include a sunroof, automatic wipers, partial leather upholstery, an 8.4-inch touchscreen interface, navigation, Alpine sound system, etc.

The R/T and SRT versions enter the high-performance zone but also come with unique interior execution and high-value comfort features.

The Durango for 2020 will also offer modern safety systems including adaptive cruise control, active lane control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.

2020 Dodge Durango: Performance, MPG

The 2020 Dodge Durango will repeat the same engine range matched to the 8-speed automatic transmission.

The base version will use a 3.6-liter V-6 with the output rated at 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The V-6 Durango with the power on rear wheels will return 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The installation of the all-wheel-drive will remove 1 mpg from both city and highway ratings.

With the addition of a 5.7-liter V-8 engine, the Durango will transform to a high-performance SUV. With this engine under the hood, the model will have 360 hp and torque of 390 lb-ft at disposal. This powertrain will, however, reduce the fuel economy to 14 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.

The SRT version will come with the special package including a 6.4-liter V-8 engine, adaptive suspension, performance steering, limited-slip rear differential, upgraded Brembo brakes, etc. The model will have a potential of 475 hp and torque of 470 lb-ft. The fuel efficiency will be 13/19 mpg city/highway.
