Following the introduction of the all-new, US-specs Nissan Roque, the new-generation global 2021 Nissan X-Trail arrives with the identical design and features but with the markets-specific equipment.
The new-generation X-Trail replaces the previous version that has been on the roads since 2013 and the new version comes with the improvements on all fronts.
The redesigned X-Trails is based on the new platform and comes with slightly revised dimensions. The new X-Trail applies also the brand’s latest design philosophy.
The model has a more comfortable and quieter cabin equipped with the newest tech and safety features. It should also deliver a more comfortable ride thanks to the new underpinning and drivetrain. There will also be performance improvements with a likely introduction of the electrified version later in the life cycle.
Nissan says that the new 2021 Nissan X-Trail, like the US Roque version, sits on the redesigned platform that should provide multiple benefits. The platform should be a heavily revised version of the previous CMF unit. The upgraded design should improve the model’s on-fly characteristics and in-cab comfort. It also allows the implementation of the new powertrain and tech equipment.
The new X-Trail sports also more modern and robust appearance. The inspiration comes from the latest Nissan Juke. The model has a reworked front-end styling formed of the new V-motion grille with active shutters and a new lighting setup. The new version uses a split-design headlight like the newest Juke and a bulk of other SUVs.
The all-new X-Trail comes also with the restyled profile with the stronger shoulders and higher and more prominent waistline.
The rear of the model is also more angular and with the new design taillights.
The new model has also revised dimensions and despite looking more robust it is actually slightly shorter (39 mm) and sits lower to the ground.
The cabin of the new 2021 Nissan X-Trail underwent also a thorough redesign. The new version comes with the remodeled dash and multiple comfort improvements. The cabin is also better isolated from the exterior noise.
The new dash features a driver-focused design with the center display moved on the top of the dash. The center stack is also reworked and the model gets a new digital instrument cluster.
The new-gen X-Trails goes again on sale with the great Zero Gravity seats. The model will also be available with the premium materials and comfort features in the upper grades.

The new version gets a new optional 9-inch infotainment screen accompanied by the updated 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a head-up display. The new model uses wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Wireless charging will be available in some variants.
The redesigned X-Trail goes also on sale with loads of safety equipment. Every version gets lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, rear automatic emergency braking and automatic high beams. Nissan’s ProPilot technologies will be available as an option.
The new 2021 Nissan X-Trail will benefit from improved underpinning and performance. The new platform is about 100 pounds lighter and the model has an upgraded suspension geometry.
The power will provide an improved 2.5-liter non-turbo four-cylinder engine. The engine will again be in the mix with the continuously variable transmission. The engine should make 135 kW and 245 Nm of torque. There are also reports that a 200-kW 2.0-liter variable-compression turbo-4 engine might be used.
Some markets will also get a diesel option and Nissan’s ePower hybrid technology should also appear at some point.
The redesigned X-Trail will again be available with the two- and all-wheel drive. The model uses an advanced Intelligent all-wheel-drive system with a new electro-hydraulic clutch. The X-Trail employs also Vehicle Motion Control and an improved electric power steering system.
The 2021 Nissan X-Trail should go on sale early next year. Closer to the launch more details will appear including the price. With improvements in all aspects and more standard equipment, the redesigned X-Trail should cost slightly more across the range compared to the current version.
