2022 GMC Yukon: Changes, Trim Levels

The forthcoming 2022 GMC Yukon is one of the most impressive full-size SUVs you can get. GM plans to update its entire lineup of SUVs and Yukon is just one of the models. Moreover, General Motors will update Tahoe, Suburban, and Escalade SUVs as well. The arriving Yukon will introduce various exterior and interior updates. On top of that, the manufacturer will introduce new optional packages. The existing packages will get small upgrades, which is another great thing to hear.

We don’t expect to see major changes on the new Yukon but some upgrades will happen for sure. GM is focusing on electrification but Yukon will probably hit the markets without an electrified powertrain option. Luckily, Yukon SUV already provides great performance. On the other hand, its fuel economy could’ve been better so a hybrid powertrain is a must in the near future. Lastly, a larger Yukon XL variant is also available, along with the off-road AT4 version.

2022 Yukon Specs

The base 2022 GMC Yukon will once again deploy the same 5.3-liter V8 engine. This unit is reliable and it provides 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. As we said, fuel economy is far from impressive but this engine could introduce a new cylinder deactivation system. With this V8 unit, Yukon can tow up to 6,500 pounds, which is more than enough. Upper trim levels will offer a larger 6.2-liter output. This engine is capable of producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

No matter which engine you opt for, Yukon will provide a very smooth and comfortable ride. The optional engine helps Yukon to tow almost 8,500 pounds. We already mentioned the off-road AT4 variant that offers more equipment and higher ground clearance. In terms of competition, the Ford Expedition can tow 9,300 pounds, so Yukon is still behind its biggest rival. Lastly, Yukon offers a 10-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD setup is optional.

Diesel and Hybrid Powertrain Options

If you want a new 2022 GMC Yukon equipped with a diesel engine, a 3.0-liter V6 is the answer. This unit also powers the Silverado pickup truck. It can generate 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque so your Yukon SUV can tow around 10,000 pounds.

As for the hybrid engine, we already wrote that any sort of electrification won’t happen for 2022MY. Surely, GM plans to electrify all of its SUVs in the near future. Cadillac Lyriq is one of the first candidates, along with the arriving GMC Hummer SUV.

2022 GMC Yukon Trim Levels, Price

New 2022 GMC Yukon is available in numerous trim levels. The all-terrain version is available once again, which is great. This AT4 trim level comes with a standard 4WD system, a two-speed transfer case, and impressive 20-inch wheels. Of course, all-terrain tires are in offer as well. The SLE is the base trim level that won’t change significantly.

We hope to see General Motor’s brand-new Super Cruise system, along with a new infotainment system and more driver-assistance aids. The SLT model is still a mystery, but some upgrades will happen for sure. The range-topping Yukon Denali is the most luxurious variant that offers plenty of premium stuff. However, its price starts at around $80,000. On the other hand, the base trim level is available for $52,000. The sales will begin later in 2021.
