2023 Acura MDX Type S Review

The forthcoming 2023 Acura MDX Type S will gain a couple of improvements over the 2022MY. The MDX SUV is a three-row mid-size luxury model with so much to offer. We like everything about Acura, but Type S treatment is perhaps the best thing about this manufacturer. Every Type S model looks amazing, and the MDX model is no exception.

Unlike the base Acura MDX, the Type S treatment has more power. On top of that, it looks sportier. Moreover, you can add an impressive Advanced Package that will improve your interior, significantly. The new model will get a minor facelift, a couple of interior updates, new optional features, and new exterior colors.

Acura MDX Type S Facelift

Transforming a three-row SUV into a sporty model is a tough thing to do. However, Acura showed us how to do it. The 2023 Acura MDX Type S looks incredible, offering an aggressive exterior design. On top of that, this SUV provides red brakes, black exterior accents, and larger 21-inch wheels. The wheels can be had in either gray or black colors. The color palette is quite impressive, and the new MDX SUV will reportedly introduce new paints as well.

The Type S model provides a suspension lift, so the ride height is slightly higher than on the base model. The revised front provides larger openings for improved airflow and better engine cooling. The platform is stiffer, according to Acura, and additional aluminum treatment should shave off some weight. Because of that, this sporty SUV also comes with front and rear stabilizer bars.

Interior Features

The interior of the 2023 Acura MDX Type S is a perfect combination of sporty design and luxury treatment. This SUV comes with a unique steering wheel, metal pedals, and beautiful contrast stitching. You can choose various interior colors schemes, although the Azurite Blue interior looks the best. However, the blue interior is only available with the optional Advance Package.

This package will also add massaging front seats, a premium 25-speaker sound system. The interior comes with lots of leather materials, so the comfort is admirable. Lastly, this Type S model offers a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Specs and Transmission

The base MDX three-row SUV uses a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a standard FWD system. However, the 2023 Acura MDX Type S will use the same engine, but with a turbocharger. Thanks to that, the Type S version generates up to 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, the SH-AWD system comes as standard, along with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

Generally, the turbocharger adds 65 horses and 87 lb-ft of torque over the regular V6 gasoline engine. The Acura MDX Type S will provide improved steering agility, more power, and mechanical upgrades such as Brembo brakes, adaptive dampers, and air springs.

2023 Acura MDX Type S Price and Release Date

The price of the forthcoming 2023 Acura MDX Type S will start at around $65,000. It is the range-topping trim level with lots of luxury, improved performances, and more aggressive styling. On the other hand, the base Acura MDX will cost $48,000. The sales will reportedly begin at some point in the second half of 2022.
